Information supplied by Arthur Branch (July 2025):

Richard’s father, (another Richard) left behind his wife and the other children.

Moved to Sprotbrough, just outside of Doncaster, Yorkshire with his father c1790. Probably because he was employed by Lord Copley of Cornwall and Sprotbrough Hall just outside of Yorkshire. In 1800 at the time of his marriage to Hannah Walcroft he was a butler at Sprotbrough Hall. He (or his father) also had a tenant farm on the estate.

Shortly after the death of Lord Copley he left and purchased the Green Dragon Inn in Doncaster. He became a prominent citizen and a freeman of the city. At his death in 1828 his second wife Sarah Yellot ran The Green Dragon Inn for a year before it was sold. Around this time his son William Walcroft Branch emigrated to Bathurst New Brunswick.

Sprotbrough Hall, South Yorkshire, unknown artist Cusworth Hall Museum and Park (Source) "Sprotborough Hall near Doncaster was built for Sir Godfrey Copley, who was a scientist between 1696 and 1700. The wings of the Hall were added shortly after. The layout of the house is said to have reflected the Palace of Versailles. The house is set in extensive gardens which were laid out in the Dutch style. The hall was demolished in 1926 and the parkland used for a housing estate."
