In 1718, John Bean married Sarah Sinkler, the daughter of John Sinkler and Elizabeth Bean. Elizabeth (b.1678) was a sister of John's father James (b.1672), making them first cousins.
They had four children, all born at Brentwood, New Hampshire:
Joshua Bean, born 1719; Sinkler Bean, born 1720; Nathaniel Bean, born 1722; and Mary (Mercy) Bean, born 1723
"His sons were all a credit to his good name. Joshua and his large family moved to Gilmanton, NH very early as pioneers and planted the name Bean, there. Sinkler settled with his family at Salisbury, NH and this town practically became a "Bean Colony." Nathaniel moved with his family to Warner and he became the "father" of the Warner Beans. He became one of the Delegates which ratified the Constitution of the United States of America. The "favorite grandson" of John Bean (MacBean/MacBayne) of Exeter did well in raising the family that he did. He raised and bred men who pioneered in the wilderness, and made that wilderness to bloom into prosperous and good homes and communities. The all without exception took the school and church with them into the wilderness, and built them into institutions that became the backbone of the new towns."
